Walking sports festival comes to Corsham

Walking sports festival comes to Corsham

Walking sports festival comes to Corsham – Springfield Community Campus, in Corsham, will host a walking sports festival on Sunday 10 September.

The sports festival, which is open to adults of all abilities, aims to celebrate the success of the various walking sports activities taking place across Wiltshire, by bringing together participants from football and netball sessions for a day of fun fixtures and socialising.

The event will take place from 10am to 3pm and welcomes both regular walking football and netball players, as well as those who wish to try walking sports for the first time.

Walking sports are particularly suitable for older participants, people recovering from an illness or injury, and those who wish to take the first steps to a healthier lifestyle.

All walking sports initiatives involve adapting a traditional sport – in this case football and netball – to a slower pace, allowing the sessions to be more accessible and creating a fun and social sporting opportunity.

The festival is being hosted by Wiltshire Council, in partnership with Wiltshire County FA and England Netball.

John Thomson, cabinet member for leisure, said: “We have a thriving walking sports programme here in Wiltshire and the festival is a great way to showcase what’s available and the benefits of taking part.

“Evidence shows that walking sports have a positive impact on the physical, mental and social wellbeing of participants, and this festival provides an opportunity for people of all abilities to try a new activity in a friendly and informal environment.

“We are very much looking forward to hosting the day and would encourage everyone to come along and have a go.”

To register for the walking sports festival, or to request further information, please email SportsDevelopment@wiltshire.gov.uk or call Becca Higgs, Sports Development Officer, on 07584 509219.
