Crohn’s and Colitis UK are currently looking for volunteers to support with a charity walking event taking place in Bristol city centre on Saturday 15th July 2017.
Crohn’s and Colitis UK is the leading charity in the battle against Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, which are the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. We provide high quality information and services, support life-changing research, campaign to raise awareness and improve care and support for everyone affected by these conditions.
On Saturday 15th July we will be holding a one-off charity fundraising event called Walk IT. Starting at Victoria Square, Clifton, Walk IT is a sponsored walk consisting of a 5km or 10km route, taking participants through Bristol city centre past iconic sights and landmarks, as well as helping them discover hidden gems. It is a fantastic community day, with the walk starting and finishing at the fun-filled event village, with entertainment, food and fun for all ages.
As we are expecting over 600 people to attend on the day, we are looking for volunteers to help us at this event. The types of activities volunteers could expect to help with are:
• Welcoming walkers on arrival and signpost them to registration
• Handing out medals and cheering on walkers as they enter the finishing area
• Supporting walkers along the walk by marshalling key checkpoints on the route
• Helping out at the charity village with equipment, information
• Engaging with members of the public, if and when they ask questions about the event!
Our volunteers will get to attend a fun, community-spirited day out supporting a fantastic event and cause, gain volunteering/events experience, do something new and boost their CV, and have the opportunity to meet new people in their community in a sociable setting. They will receive clear advanced briefing and on-the-day training, refreshments, reimbursement of travel expenses up to £20 after the event and a free t-shirt! Walk IT will encourage everyone to grab their trainers and show their support by joining one of the eight walks we are organising across the UK. Walk IT aims to boost much needed awareness raising as well as increase vital funds for people with Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis, which affects more than 300,000 people in the UK.
