Yeovil Literary Festival 2019

Well-known literary figures, comedians, celebrities and local authors will descend on Somerset in November as the County Council’s library helps host the Yeovil’s Literary Festival.

Yeovil Library, working in partnership with The Octagon Theatre, Waterstones Yeovil and Yeovil Community Arts Association is set to be part of the seventh annual Yeovil Literary Festival.

The 2019 festival takes place from Thursday 31 October – Monday 4 November with a packed programme.

Councillor David Hall, Somerset County Council’s cabinet member with responsibilities for libraries said: “This year’s Yeovil Literary Festival will build on the success of the previous years. The programme is incredibly diverse, and we hope that everyone who visits will enjoy the variety of events.”

The following authors/events will be at Yeovil Library during the festival:

Tuesday 29 October, 2pm – Tess Gerritsen

We are delighted to welcome international bestselling author Tess Gerritsen to this year’s festival.  Her thrillers starring homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles inspired the hit TV series Rizzoli and Isles.  Tess will be talking about her new standalone thriller, “The Shape of Night”.

Friday 1 November, 10am – Crime Writing Workshop with crime authors Chris Ewan and Clare Donoghue.

Ever wondered how to write a bestseller?  Join crime authors Chris and Clare as they run this hugely popular interactive writing workshop.  Discover how to come up with a big, bold and unique idea for your novel and tips on writing a killer opening and creating characters your readers will empathise with.  Suitable for all levels of experience.

Friday 1 November, 12noon – Edward Marston

Edward Marston is best known for his hugely successful Railway Detective series.  Join Edward in 1861, Halloween, as he talks about his new book “Fear on the Phantom Special”.

Friday 1 November, 2pm – Jane Corry and Fiona Neill

Jane Corry is a former magazine journalist who spent three years as a writer in residence of a high security prison for men.  The often hair-raising experiences helped to inspire her Sunday Times bestselling psychological thrillers.  Jane’s latest book is “I Looked Away”.

Fiona Neill is an author and journalist who has written five Sunday Times bestsellers.  Amongst other jobs she has worked as a foreign correspondent in Central America and was assistant editor for Marie Claire and the Times magazine.  Her latest book is “Beneath the Surface”.

Friday 1 November, 4pm – Daniel Cole

Daniel Cole, author of bestsellers “Ragdoll” and “Hangman” has worked as a paramedic, RSPCA officer and the RNLI, driven by an intrinsic need to save people.  We are delighted that Daniel will be talking about his latest book “Endgame”. 

Saturday 2 November, 12noon – Vaseem Khan

Vaseem Khan is a firm favourite at the Yeovil Literary Festival.  He will be talking about his last instalment in the hugely entertaining Inspector Chopra series.  In “Bad Day at the Vulture Club”, Chopra and his elephant sidekick investigate the death of one of Mumbai’s wealthiest citizens.

Saturday 2 November, 2pm – Andrew Taylor

A highly regarded British novelist, best known for his historical novels and crime fiction, Andrew Taylor holds a Crime Writer’s Association Diamond (CWA) Dagger for excellence in crime writing and is the only author to have won the CWA Historical Dagger three times.

London 1667, in the court of Charles II, is a dangerous time to be alive.  A wrong move could lead to disgrace, exile or death.  The discovery of a murder at Clarendon House could have catastrophic consequences.

Monday 4 November, 4pm – Adele Parks
