Trowbridge Sports Centre update

Trowbridge Sports Centre, which has been closed since 23 December, will partially reopen in the next month.

Following a series of surveys and investigations, the swimming pool section of the leisure centre was immediately closed last month. The site is owned by Wiltshire Council and operated in partnership by Places Leisure.

Wiltshire Council has since sought guidance from structural engineers, and is working to get the dry side facilities in the centre open as quickly as possible. Significant remedial works are required to the swimming pool section to make it safe, and it is anticipated that these will be completed by the summer.

Cllr Allison Bucknell, Cabinet member for Leisure, said: “We are very sorry for the disruption to users of Trowbridge Sports Centre following its closure over the Christmas period.

“We recognise how frustrating this is for local people, but the safety of centre users is our first priority.

“Our teams are now working as quickly as possible to get the dry side facilities, including the sports hall and squash courts, open as soon as we can.

“We are also undertaking remedial works on the pool to enable it to open again; unfortunately this will take some time to complete and we anticipate that the pool will reopen by the summer.

“Once completed, this work will enable the facilities to stay open for another two-five years, while we develop proposals for a new leisure facility in Trowbridge.

“In the meantime, we are working closely with Places Leisure to ensure all centre users can use alternative facilities in the area.”
