Top award for council’s bereavement services

Staff at Bath’s Haycombe Cemetery and Crematorium have been acknowledged for their high standard of service with an industry gold award.

The Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Managers (ICCM), which provides policy and best practice guidance to burial and cremation authorities, has given the award.

It has given the cemetery and crematorium, in Whiteway Road, a gold standard ‘in the Charter for Bereaved assessment process for burial and cremation.

The prestigious award demonstrates the highest possible standards in cemetery and crematorium management.

Councillor Bob Goodman, (Conservative Combe Down) cabinet member for development and neighbourhoods, said: “I know our staff at Haycombe always provide an excellent and professional service to families going through the saddest of times. It is really pleasing to see their professionalism acknowledged by the highly regarded ICCM.”

In order to become a member of the Charter for the Bereaved, a burial and/or cremation authority or company must show that it is able to satisfy basic Charter rights connected with funerals. The Charter also contains objectives and targets that help authorities to set priorities for future development and improvement.

Members of the public can be assured that an authority or company that has adopted the charter is committed to providing excellent service designed to meet their needs.

Of the 79 authorities which took part in the assessment 42 received gold in both categories.
