The things no one prepares you for motherhood

The things no one prepares you for motherhood

It feels like with the number of people on the planet, we should know everything there is to know about having children but there are a whole heap of things that might surprise you even after spending nine months researching and preparing yourself.

We asked some lovely mums to tell us the things they wish they had been told about motherhood to help out all the new mums out there!

  • Get used to having sick in your bra. It’s fine. You’ll not even notice it after a while.
  • You might think yourself a pro at giving yourself a manicure but there is nothing as terrifying as cutting your baby’s nails. NOTHING.
  • You might not be that fussed about having a cup of tea now, but trust me, it’ll be the most exciting thing you’ll ever do post baby.
  • Everything will make you emotional. Everything. Toilet roll ads, comedy shows, everything.
  • You will keep running out of washing tabs. Seriously, you might think one tiny human won’t make much difference, but your washing machine will be on constantly
  • Baby brain is a thing. Get used to finding your keys under the toaster and your cornflakes in the letter box.
  • There are very few TV shows on at 3am while you’re sat up with the baby but the ones that are will make you wonder why you never watched them in the first place.
  • Falling asleep in weird places will become the norm.
  • Weirdly, though the thought of changing a nappy might make you gag, you’ll find you don’t actually mind when it’s your own kid.
  • You’ll start to wonder why dressing a baby wasn’t a priority lesson while you were at school.
  • Genuinely you’ll find it amazing how much you can love something.
  • You will have days where you’re elated and days when you’re rock bottom, it’s completely normal, even if other mums pretend they’re happy all the time.
