WELCOME TO THE AVON VALLEY RAILWAY

Opened in 1869 by the Midland Railway as a through-route between Birmingham and the South Coast the line was later linked to the iconic Somerset & Dorset Railway. Closed under the Beeching Axe of the 1960’s the Avon Valley Railway was preserved by an enthusiastic group of volunteers. Today, 40 years on, three miles of track has been re-laid, locomotives and carriages restored, and the sound of steam can once again be heard along the Avon Valley.

The Avon Valley Railway offers a range of special events throughout the year for both families and enthusiasts.  These include our popular Teddy Bears’ Picnics, 1940s weekend and Steam Galas.

Our Sunday lunch dining trains give you the chance to experience the glory days of the railway dining car.  Join us for our Pines Express two and three course Sunday lunch dining trains on selected dates throughout the year.  We also offer more informal mid-week evening dining trains and Murder Mystery events during the summer months.

Whilst we’re no longer required to maintain social distancing we’re still choosing to seat individual family groups in separate compartments or table areas. To book your seats all you need to do is select a carriage and then click on an available compartment or table area. Choose your first seat and you’ll then notice that all the remaining seats in that compartment also become reserved, so that no one else can book them. Then, just choose the different tickets you need for each of your group from the drop down lists. For any spare seats simply choose the option ‘seat not required’.

Trains for the Teddy Bear Picnic depart at 10:45, 12:00, 13:15, 14:30 and 15:45
