Summer Reading Challenge at your local Libraries

Summer Reading Challenge at your local Libraries
On July 15th at Midsomer Norton and Radstock libraries, are launching their annual Summer Reading Challenge.
This is a free national scheme for 4-11 year olds who can read up to 6 of their choice over the summer, collect stickers along the way and receive a certificate and medal when the challenge is completed.
The theme this year is Animal Agents, illustrated by Tony Ross, illustrator of the Horrid Henry series and children’s author. His illustrations for the Summer Reading Challenge will feature a variety of clever creatures, specially trained to use their skills and natural instincts to unravel mysteries.
The libraries will be running a ‘Design an Animal Agent’ competition in the lead up to the Challenge. Details of this and children’s events over the summer are still to be announced so call into the library in June or look on the website for details.
If you are interested in volunteering to help with the summer reading challenge please contact your local library for more information. Volunteers play an important role in welcoming and encouraging children to finish the challenge.
Regular events for younger children also continue over the Summer – for children under 5 they hold regular weekly Story and Rhyme sessions at both libraries and monthly Baby Bounce and Rhyme for the under 3s. Both libraries are also looking for volunteers to help deliver these sessions. Please contact your local library to find out more.
