Schools in B&NES leading the way to fight against budget cuts

Welton Primary School in Midsomer Norton, outside of Bath, is leading the way for parents to voice their concerns about cuts to school budgets.
Jon Snell, the head at Welton Primary, has told local press that a national funding crisis has left his school at breaking point and he hopes that mums and dads will mobilise to convince government to look again at the budgets. He has left them with the message: “When parents talk, politicians listen.”

Welton Primary School is among several in Bath and North East Somerset who has had their budgets shrink year on year. Welton Primary are expecting theirs to shrink by £33,000 a year, but is committed to continuing to do all it can to support its pupils. In a meeting with parents, it was revealed that 53 of the 70 schools in B&NES are seeing their budgets shrink on average by £69 per pupil.
Mr Snell has assured parents that this isn’t a party political issue and he would be speaking out on this regardless of who is in charge. Welton Primary School is part of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership, but all schools are affected, not just academies.

Parents have been encouraged were encouraged to write to the MP for North East Somerset, Jacob Rees-Mogg with their concerns and to spread the word to other parents at local schools. Parents of schools in the Bath area can contact MP Wera Hobhouse.
