Regional Mayor to meet with First Bus

Regional Mayor to meet with First Bus

Tim Bowles, Regional Mayor of the West of England, which includes Bristol, North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset, will discuss issues with First Bus including cancelled services and delays facing bus commuters across the region.
The meeting is scheduled to take place in the next two weeks and follows on from correspondence from residents across the West of England area who have highlighted severe delays, cancellations and overcrowded services.

First have said that they have a driver shortage and this will be raised by the Mayor, who would like the company to review their recruitments and training practices to ensure there isn’t any further disruption.
The ongoing issues, coupled with current levels of congestion, provide challenges to the existing bus services and highlights the need to continue to work together as a region on the West of England bus strategy.

In a statement, Tim Bowles, said: “Thousands of people across the West of England rely on First Bus to get around the region. The recent level of disruption is unacceptable and I will raise my concerns directly with First. Reliable transport is essential to keep the region growing and I will press First to address these challenges as quickly as possible.”
