Rail network plans announced

The West of England Combined Authority is now working with the Department if Transport on plans to improve the rail services across the region.
The plans include improving the Severn Beachline to provide direct services to Bath and Westbury, reopening Henbury station and providing more frequent services to Yate.
It has estimated that these improvements could generate 1.7 more rail users and give 80,000 people more access to the train network.

Plans have also been discussed considering reopening the Portishead line for light rail, which would enable trains operating without the need for heavy rail infrastructure. The possibility of using trams in the region will also be explored.
Tim Bowles, Regional Mayor, has said that he wants the West of England to have the rail network it deserves and would like to continue to work towards reducing congestion, improving air quality and keeping people moving
