Millfield Swimming Pool to re-open to the local community

From Friday 4th December, Millfield Swimming Pool will re-open its doors to the public, providing an opportunity for local residents to improve their physical health in an Olympic sized pool. Alongside physical benefits, swimming can also provide a boost to mental wellbeing.

Lane swimming sessions are available for one-hour time slots, with various dates and times available throughout the week until 18th December, and a limited number of sessions also being offered during the Christmas holidays. The sessions are open for swimmers of all abilities, with customers able to book a slow, medium of fast lane, ensuring they are grouped with swimmers of a similar level to themselves and their level of comfort.

With the weather getting colder, families looking for an active way to spend time together in an indoor setting will benefit from the family swimming sessions on offer, with the small pool available for hourly time slots. The pool will be divided in two to accommodate two families at a time whilst maintaining a safe distance from each other.

The staff at the pool will continue to implement the additional hygiene and safety measures that were introduced earlier this year to keep everyone safe, including social distancing, a one-way system and a thorough cleaning regime.

Following Government guidelines, Millfield are not currently accepting bookings from anyone who lives in a Tier 3 area.

Pool Manager, James Whitlock, is looking forward to continuing public swimming at Millfield in the new year, saying, “We’re so pleased to have been able to open our doors to the public this year and having received great feedback from our customers we are putting plans in place to continue with regular public swimming sessions in 2021. For many, our swimming sessions have provided a unique opportunity to swim in a pool that has been the training ground for 24 Olympians including Duncan Goodhew, Mark Foster and most recently James Guy.”
