Happy Roald Dahl Day!

Happy Roald Dahl Day!

Roald Dahl Day is celebrated annually on the 13th September and gives us all the opportunity to enjoy some of the greatest stories ever written. It is a chance for us to celebrate our favourite characters and to remember the author with a host of fun activities and workshops!

The event takes place in September as it was Roald Dahl’s birth month and you’ll find that schools and other organisations will be taking part in the Dahlicious Dress Up Day, reading some of his best loved stories and more fun lessons! If your school isn’t taking part but you want to join in and hold some events at home for the family, you can find resources online at roalddahl.com

Alternatively, you could spend the day reading some of your favourite stories together! Here’s a list of all of the Family Matters team’s favourite Roald Dahl books and why!

  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
This was the most popular among the team! Mostly because of the chocolate but also because of the oompa Loompas and how amazing the factory was!
  • George’s Marvellous Medicine
This one came in number two!
  • The Twitts
This one was a particular favourite of the sales team. Apparently one of them new a couple near where they lived as a child who looked like Mr and Mrs Twitt!
  • The Fantastic Mr Fox
  • The BFG
There was much mention of whizpoppers and snozcumbers!
  • Matilda
Who didn’t want to be Matilda and have amazing mind powers as a kid?!
  • The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me
