Foodbanks are busier than ever

Foodbanks are busier than ever

According to the Trussell Trust which runs over 400 foodbanks across the UK, December is set to be the busiest month of the year for foodbanks.
Last December, the group and other charity-led foodbanks, donated almost 200,000 tree day emergency packs of food to families.

If you can afford to buy a few extra bits in the lead up to Christmas, please do contact your local food bank to see what they are in short supply of. Many foodbanks also provide essential non-food items, such as toiletries and hygiene products, so donations of these are gratefully received.

There are a number of ways you can donate to foodbanks across the country, either directly at your local foodbank, or at collection points in supermarkets.

Last December, the Trussell Trust found that they were 49% busier than the rest of the year. They have also said that the five week wait for a first Universal Credit Payment and that benefits don’t always cover essential living costs and the general cost of living were top reasons why people were referred to foodbanks.
