‘Every Mind Matters’ – how’s yours?

Somerset residents experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood and trouble sleeping are encouraged to visit a new ‘Every Mind Matters’ website to empower them to take action to manage and improve their mental health.

Somerset County Council and local NHS partners are delighted to support Public Health England’s launch of this innovative self-help website available, which will support everyone feel more confident in taking action to look after their mental health and wellbeing.

Everyone needs good mental health and wellbeing – it’s essential for living happy and healthy lives. The website is for everyone aged over 18 to help them, or someone they are concerned about, pick up a few helpful tips and advice because simple changes can make a big difference.

Visitors to the site are encouraged to answer a few simple questions about their mental health and wellbeing with the chance to develop a personalised action plan. For those who want to learn about common problems, there are more in-depth modules on stress, sleeplessness, anxiety and low mood.

It also offers insight into what can cause changes in people’s mental health, possible signs to look out for, advice on things you can do and importantly, explain what’s okay and when people should seek further support with links to resources.

Cllr Christine Lawrence, Cabinet Member for Public Health at Somerset County Council said: “We don’t need to wait until we are struggling with our mental health; there are lots of things we can do to protect ourselves and prevent problems escalating, just as we do with our physical health.  Visit the Every Mind Matters website at www.healthysomerset.co.uk to obtain a personalised action plan, further information and links to support.”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex supported the launch of Every Mind Matters on Monday 7 October by voicing a special film, available to view at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThvogdoC-q4

The film features a number of celebrities including Gillian Anderson, Davina McCall, Glenn Close, Freddie Flintoff, Professor Green and Nadiya Hussain. It was broadcast simultaneously on ITV, Channel 4 and Sky channels on Monday evening.
