‘Small Talk’ with David Hayward
The late John Haynes OBE commissioned a number of fabulously intricate 1:12 scale models of cars in the Collection from bespoke model maker David Hayward. We’re so excited to be introducing to you our BRAND NEW family trail, find the full-size original car in the Museum and then answer the questions! You’ll also have to chance to meet the man himself, David Hayward, talking about how he makes the iconic scale models and all things model making! You can meet the model maker on Tuesday 26th October and Thursday 28th October 10:00am – 2:00pm in the Museum!
The Darracq drives again!
One of the oldest cars in our collection, the 1903 Type L Darracq is being readied to take part in the 2021 London-Brighton Veteran Car Run. The Run itself takes place on Sunday 7th November, but before this, you can see the Darracq put through her paces in The Paddock and find out from Mark, her mechanic, what it’s like to drive a car over a hundred years old!
Times and dates for The Paddock are to be confirmed.
So much to see and do!
Explore the largest collection of cars in the UK and get up close to hundreds of shiny vehicles including horseless carriages, supercars, Formula 1s and Ferraris.
See and hear one of the first internal combustion engines whirr and spring to life
Push to start the working Barsanti-Matteucci engine on display in the Dawn of Motoring and see the gears and pistons spring to life, then find out how a modern car works from the engine to wheels with working cutaway in Memory Lane.
Try the new ‘Reds around the world’ Interactive!

Keep the little ones busy along the way!
