Dragons and jelly? It can only be Dad’s Club

Taunton Libraries’ Dad’s Club is proving a popular event, giving dads the opportunity to have some fun and quality time with their children.

At the most recent event, dads and children alike enjoyed activities including the painting table, rescuing dragons from the Jelly and the digital table to name but a few.

In a survey of fathers on the day there was some encouraging feedback:

“It looked like a great thing to do on daddy and daughter day,” said one dad.

“Very welcoming staff, lots of fun activities for J to play with” commented another.

Councillor David Hall, Somerset County Council’s cabinet member responsible for libraries, said: “It is great to see another new initiative take off at one of our libraries. The last couple of years has seen much social isolation, so I am pleased that we are able to offer dads an opportunity to get out with their children, for some fun activities.

“The event has been very well received by dads. It is a great place for them enjoy some one-to-one time with their children and meet other dads.”

The next planned event is 9 April (11:00-12:30) at Taunton Library. Dads with children of all ages are welcome – it is a great chance to bond with your children and make new friends. To book a place, email taulib@somerset.gov.uk

The event has proved so popular that the library service has started to roll it out to other libraries in the county such as Yeovil and Wellington on 12 March at 10.30 am.
