Curtain up for half term fun

The curtain will be going up at Taunton Library and The Brewhouse theatre next month for a special collaboration over the February half-term.

Teenagers aged 13-18 can join in ‘Word Play’ – two masterclasses celebrating the spoken word through poetry, story-telling, performances and workshops.

Taking place on Wednesday 19 February from 10am-5pm at both Taunton Library and the Brewhouse Theatre, tickets are just £5 for the day.

The ‘Story Through Song with Aisha Ali’ masterclass will offer a day of vocal play and song-writing. Participants can learn about rhythm and harmony, practice circle songs and draw on experiences to write and share songs.

The ‘Performance Poetry with Daniel Balla’ masterclass will offer a welcoming workshop to explore performance poetry, the chance to make new friends, collaborate, devise new pieces and jam together.

After attending the masterclass, the young people then have the chance to perform their work on The Brewhouse stage before internationally renowned storytellers from StoryJam take to the boards.  The performance takes place on Thursday 20 February at 5.30pm.

Councillor David Hall, Cabinet member with responsibility for libraries at Somerset County Council, said, “It is fantastic to see the Library Service and The Brewhouse working together to provide these performance opportunities for young people. It’s a great opportunity for our young people to learn and perform.”
