New community wardens, improved pedestrian safety and better support for young people are among the projects in Bath to share a £500,000 funding boost announced today by Bath & North East Somerset Council.
The Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) helps fund community improvement schemes such as schools, transport links, open spaces and recreational facilities.
More than £500,000 shared between five new projects has been approved by council leader, Councillor Dine Romero, from the latest round of funding.
The projects sharing the funding boost are:
- £125,000 towards the installation of a new pedestrian crossing at Ensleigh to improve road safety at a new residential development.
- £123,215 towards the cost of road improvements to support the new pavilion and sports facilities at Glasshouse.
- £80,000 towards the build costs for a new rotunda to offer wellbeing and community space at Newbridge School.
- £105,000 to fund two community wardens in Bath from September 2020 – September 2023 to support communities which have seen a high level of student accommodation delivered to the local area.
- £89,638 to fund a youth service to serve the areas of Southdown and Whiteway in Bath from April 2020 – April 2023.
Councillor Dine Romero said: “These projects are fantastic examples of how CIL money is enabling improvements to our communities and making a real difference to people’s lives. I’m very pleased to approve the funding which will support local development of these areas of Bath and I look forward to seeing the schemes in action.”
