Blood Moon 2018 – The Lunar eclipse is just weeks away!

The longest total lunar eclipse of the 21st century is less than two weeks away!

On the 27th July at 3:30pm to 5:13pm, the moon will turn a deep red or a reddish-brown colour during the eclipses. This blood moon will not go completely dark as some sunlight going through the Earth’s atmosphere is bent around the edge of our planet and falls onto the moon’s surface. Lunar eclipse last for hours as the moon slowly orbits through the Earth’s shadow.  However, the best part of the blood moon, the red colour is its best is around 4:21pm so remember to get photos at the perfect time.

This July total lunar eclipse occurs on the same day as the planet Mars shines at its best in the night sky. July is also the month that Mars will be the closest to Earth since 2003, on July 31st.

Total lunar eclipse will be visible for everyone in South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. The moon will look slightly smaller as it is at it’s furthest point from the Earth.

This is the perfect event for everyone as all you must do is go outside at the right time and look at the sky. The lunar eclipse is safe to look at directly with the naked eye, telescopes or binoculars, so make sure your outside at 4:21pm on the 27th July to watch the moon change colour.
