Visitors to Weston-super-Mare are guaranteed a warm welcome – according to the most critical of reviewers – the visitors themselves.
The seaside resort has been named among the top ten Most Welcoming Places in the United Kingdom in the Traveller Review Awards 2020.
The news comes as little surprise to bosses at the town’s top tourist attraction, the Grand Pier, but they nevertheless welcome the national recognition and hope that it will encourage even more people to take a trip to find out for themselves.
The Traveller Review Awards were announced recently by Booking.com, one of the UK’s biggest hotel reservation sites.
Awards are given on the basis of review scores left by travellers after their experience or stay with a partner.
To win an award, a hotel must have a review score of between 8 and 10, calculated from a minimum of five reviews left by different guests.
Mallory Barrasso, from Booking.com, said: “Cities had to have an above average amount of winners to be included in the top ten most welcoming places list, which means 90 award recipients or higher.”
Lucy Graham, from the Grand Pier, said: “Hopefully, being named in this top ten will put Weston on the map as far as friendly places to stay is concerned.
“But that warm welcome is not only confined to the hotels and guest houses; here at the Grand Pier, we are all about providing family fun all year round, helping all our guests to make memories and have a great time.
“2020 is a milestone year for us; October will mark the 10th anniversary of the re-opening of the Grand Pier, following the fire in July, 2008.
“So it is a welcome boost to us, and the town as a whole, to get this recognition which ultimately comes from positive reviews provided by people who have been here.
“It’s a credit to the quality of the accommodation on offer, and the commitment to customer service, something we value very highly on the Grand Pier, too.
“We are currently right in the middle of all our preparations for the start of the main season, which is traditionally around Easter time, and this news is a very welcome start to the new year – and decade.”
