A Family Day Out at Wells Food Festival

A Family Day Out at Wells Food Festival

Sunday 13th October, 10.30am-4.30pm. Free Entry.

Give your taste buds a treat at this year’s Wells Food Festival, a free-to-enter, foodie, fun day out for all the family.

Visitors can graze their way around the Artisan Market which stretches from the Market Place into the Recreation Ground, showcasing the finest produce the region has to offer.

Festival organiser, Jon Abbott, says: “The line-up of stalls is looking really exciting.  Over 175 have booked this year, and there really is something for everyone.”  From macaroni cheese to traditional crumpets all produced locally.

The Charlie Bigham’s Discovery Zone in the Recreation Ground has lots of interactive areas for all the family looking at the food we eat and its impact on farming and the environment. “With Somerset’s strong dairy heritage, we thought it was fitting to have a milk and dairy theme this year,” continues Jon.

Discover how the milk we drink is produced and learn about the products it makes, including butter and cheese. Find out from The Collective how yoghurt is made and sample some farm-fresh milk from Coombes Micro Dairy. Shepton Vets will explain how they help farmers to keep their cows healthy, happy and productive.

The subject of food waste will also be high on the agenda.  The average UK family could save up to £800 a year by throwing away less food and drink.  Somerset Waste Partnership will be sharing lots of advice on how to avoid unnecessary waste as well providing practical suggestions for home composting.

Meanwhile, the Bath & West Farmyard makes a welcome return to the Discovery Zone, with plenty of farm animals on hand. And in the Children’s Zone in the Bishops Barn, Noah’s Ark Pre-School will be providing exciting foodie activities for those budding Jamies and Nigellas.

For a family-friendly way to see the festival, stop by the festival information stand on the Green and collect a map for The Collective Children’s Trail, with clues hidden in each of the main festival areas. There are two trails – a picture trail for little ones and a quiz trail for the bigger kids.

Everyone with a correctly completed trail sheet will receive a small prize from The Collective stand in the Discovery Zone.
