Flu Jab being offered to over-65s

People aged over 65 living in Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire will receive a new type of flu jab this year, which is considered to be more effective than other available vaccines.
The new vaccine is one of three flu jabs that are available for the different groups of individuals who are eligible for a free vaccination to make sure that as many people as possible get the right jab for them this winter season.
Children aged from two years up to school year 5, pregnant women, those who get carer’s allowance and those with long-term health conditions, such as diabetes or asthma are also eligible for a free flu jab.
This new vaccine is expected to significantly boost effectiveness by improving the body’s immune response.
The vaccine will be available from early October, eligible adults are encouraged to get their free vaccine from their GP or pharmacy before the end of November to protect themselves and their families before flu reaches its seasonal peak. If you are eligible, or you want to check if you or someone close to you is, contact your GP, midwife or healthcare provider. You can also visit www.nhs.uk/staywell for more information.
