Every little helps for young savers at school bank

A bank with a difference has been set up at St Barnabas C of E Primary School for young savers. The scheme is already paying dividends for the youngsters, with dozens already signed up and saving money each week.
The LifeSavers scheme is a financial education programme and the brainchild of the Archbishop of Canterbury who would like to help children learn the value of money and saving.
It is run by Year 5 children helped by staff and has been trialled by Years 3 and 4 with the scheme being opened up for the whole month. Each week, children bring in the money they want to save, count it and make their deposit into the bank which is run as a community bank by Bristol Credit Union.
Savers are then able to withdraw twice a year at the key times of Christmas and the final term of the year before Summer.
Claire Hill, Headteacher, said it was vital that children learned the value of money, especially now where many transactions are done online.
