Wildlife Week
26th May 2018 @ 10:00 am - 3rd June 2018 @ 4:00 pm
We want you to go wild for wildlife this half term! We really want our Wildlife Week to put the spotlight on all the wonderful plants and animals that we have in the UK and all the simple things you can do to help support British wildlife.
Cheddar Gorge is the perfect place to start exploring nature; the mosaic of habitats within the gorge support a whole host of marvellous native species and for one week only you’ll get to meet some of our favourites during some very special animal encounters!
Calling all wildlife lovers! Come and say hello to the North Somerset Birds of Prey Centre’s resident owls, hawks and falcons, and if you’re really lucky maybe have the chance to get a bit more hands on with these beautiful birds. Or if you head on down to the Museum of Prehistory’s Garden you could see a live bee hive in action and ask the Burnham District Bee Keeping Society expert’s all about these busy bees. Batty about bats? Make the most of your chance to meet our resident ecologist and discover more about the bats that live in the caves of Cheddar Gorge.
Once you’ve met our fuzzy or feathered friends, younger explorers can even make their own miniature version to take home with them and remember the trip.
Last but not least, everyday you’ll be able to join a different guided walk. Explore the geography of the gorge, learn all about the conservation work undertaken in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or go in search of the illusive greater and lesser horseshoe bats.
