David Bowie tribute at Fake Festival

David Bowie tribute at Fake Festival

Aladdinsane, the leading tribute to the late great David Bowie, gives an insight into their fake life as the legendary singer, as they prepare to play Keynsham Fake Festival at Keynsham Rugby Club on Saturday 5th August, along with tributes to Coldplay and Guns n’ Roses.

Paul Henderson, creator of Aladdinsane, decided to put together the tribute in 2002, being a massive fan of David Bowie, and was constantly told he was like Bowie in many ways.

“I have always been a fan of David Bowie, and sounded like him when I was singing, but I put off developing the tribute until 2002, as I was concentrating on my own music,” explains Paul.

Already a fan, Paul was very familiar with Bowie’s songs and musical arrangements, so that part of the tribute was easy. To replicate accurately Bowie’s stage shows, Paul studied every minute detail from live footage, and followed closely the costumes and make up Bowie was well-known for.

Paul then had to search for suitable musicians to put a band together to recreate the sound.

“I wanted to find versatile players who could commit themselves purely to what I wanted to do, and who were easy to get on with. I was very lucky to find some great people who are like a second family.”

Paul was first noticed when he appeared on ITV’s ‘Stars in Their Eyes’ in the 1990’s, and he fast became Europe’s most credible Bowie tribute.

“I did meet David himself in 1997,” continues Paul. “I have also been told by close associates of David that he knew who we were as a tribute, and he really liked it, so that was a real confidence-booster for us.”

“The biggest gig we have done to date is Mock festival in Manchester, where we played to 6,000 people,” continues Paul. “This is our first full year on the Fake Festivals tour, as we performed at one last year for the first time and absolutely loved it.”

Expect to hear a wide variety of Bowie’s greatest hits from over the years when Aladdinsane take to the Fake Festival stage, to celebrate David Bowie’s phenomenal career.

“We’re really excited to have Aladdinsane on the Fake Festivals tour this year, as they bring such a great set list and stage show,” says Jez Lee, owner of Fake Festivals. “Bowie had so many hits and touched so many people with his music over the years, we feel lucky to have such a great tribute to him, and one that the man himself endorsed as well. It could get quite emotional.”
