The Bishop’s Palace Announces Third Annual Garden Festival

 

The third English Country Garden Festival will take place at The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens in Wells, Somerset from Friday 9th – Sunday 11th June. 10am – 5pm

The annual event was first launched by Alan Titchmarsh in 2015, and is a celebration of the horticultural heritage held within the plantsman’s paradise of The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens.

Visitors can experience the award winning gardens, which recently featured on BBC Gardener’s World, filled with talks, stalls, hands-on demonstrations, refreshments, entertainment, top gardening personalities, a full schedule of activities and inspirational ideas on how best to use and enjoy their gardens.

There will be a fantastic line-up of horticultural guest speakers throughout the Festival.

On Friday 9th, Matthew Biggs, a regular panellist on BBC Gardener’s Question Time, will open the festival before giving a talk entitled “Lessons from Great Gardeners”. Gardening writer and much loved broadcaster Anne Swithinbank will speak in the afternoon on “My Life with Plants”.

On Saturday 10th Tamsin Westthorpe, former Editor of The Country Garden and Director of Stockton Bury Gardens will begin the day on a theme of “Summer in the Country Garden” and Alan Power, the Garden and Estate Manager at Stourhead will be speaking in the afternoon about the Estate and its Management.

Bath Priory Hotel Head Gardener and BBC Gardeners’ World presenter Jane Moore will speak in the morning of Sunday 11th, and the Festival will finish with a lecture entitled “From Spuds to Chelsea” by superstar garden designer Cleve West, who has won Best Show Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show multiple times.

Other activities will include a range of ‘have a go’ skills and crafts including flower arranging, felting, card crafting, a ‘Gardener’s SOS’ giving advice on all nature of gardening problems and issues, BBQ food on the South Lawn, live music from bands including The Somerset Levellers and The Longest Johns (recently featured on BBC TV) and an ‘English Country Ceilidh’ on the Saturday afternoon.
